When it comes to alcohol and drug treatment, each person has different needs. At Gateway Foundation Chicago River North Outpatient, we assess the level of care that will best help our clients. A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is one of the possibilities, and we’ll explain everything before treatment starts. However, we want to provide some of this information before our patients decide on a treatment program.
What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A PHP is a type of Outpatient Treatment that offers a higher level of care than a standard Outpatient program. Gateway Foundation Chicago River North Outpatient refers to PHP as a full-day Outpatient program.
It includes medical monitoring and comprehensive services like a Residential program. The difference, though, is that our patients can still live at home. They don’t stay at our facility overnight for treatment.
Because of that, our patients must have a stable, strong living environment at home. It’s also ideal if they’ve completed a Residential program, but it’s not a requirement. They’re still good candidates for full-day treatment as long as they don’t need 24-hour supervision.
During the Partial Hospitalization Program Chicago River North, our patients visit us three to five days a week. Our treatment center is close to public transportation, with a CTA bus stop right outside the entrance. While here, patients participate in many addiction therapy services for six to eight hours each day. We also provide education and other services for loved ones.
How long our full-day Outpatient Treatment lasts depends on each patient’s needs. We aim to minimize the disruption that treatment causes to their home lives. At the same time, we provide a safe, secure place where they don’t have to feel ashamed. These elements ensure that they can achieve a successful recovery.
Services to Expect at Partial Hospitalization Program Chicago River North
While assessing patients for Partial Hospitalization Program Chicago River North, we’ll determine the best services to help them. We base our recommended services on the state of their physical and mental health.
Withdrawal and Medication-Assisted Treatment
Even after completing alcohol or drug detox, some withdrawal symptoms can linger. Part of our Partial Hospitalization Program is managing these symptoms through Medication-Assisted Treatment. We only use medications that the Food and Drug Administration has approved to manage substance use withdrawal and cravings. Some examples include Vivitrol and Suboxone.
Traditional and Holistic Therapy
At the core of every substance use treatment program is therapy. However, it takes a combination of evidence-based and other treatment methods to provide comprehensive care. For this reason, the Partial Hospitalization Program Chicago River North includes both.
With traditional therapy, our goal is to facilitate motivation to maintain sobriety. We also help our patients develop the skills that they need to prevent relapse. To achieve those goals, we use a variety of counseling services in individual and group settings, including:
- Motivational Interviewing
- Coping Skills Education
We also use Mindfulness-Based Sobriety treatment in our Partial Hospitalization Program. Having this integrated service allows us to help our patients focus on the present and less on the past. Ultimately, it promotes skills development that makes it possible for them to make positive changes in their lives.
12-Step and Aftercare Planning
The Partial Hospitalization Program Chicago River North introduces patients to 12-step programs. We encourage them to connect with groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous after treatment. This approach helps them prepare for getting ongoing support in their own communities.
